Google Offers To Lower Play Store Fees If Developers Support Multiple Platforms

The Best Android Tablets for 2021 | PCMag

Android developers who have apps in the Google Play Store will be able to claim a 50% reduction in Google's fees - if they publish their apps on other Google platforms like WearOS, Android Auto and, in some cases, support folding screens.

The actual requirement differs depending on the app type. Apps considered to be part of the scheme include video apps (which need to support Android TV, Google TV and Cast); audio apps (WearOS, Android Auto, Android TV and Cast) and reading apps (tablet, foldable, WearOS and Android Auto).

If these platforms are support and the app has at least 100,000 active monthly installs, Google will drop its commission to 15%.

Unlike Google (and Apple's) discount for small app developers (below $1m revenue) this scheme is clearly about targeting larger developers, persuading them to do more for the Android platform in the same way they have supported Apple's iPad and Watch platforms and made them such strong contributors to the Apple ecosystem.
