Apple Acquires Dark Sky, Kills Android, Wear And Web Apps
Subscribers to the fabulous Dark Sky weather app who aren't in the Apple ecosystem are going to have to find an alternative solution, after the company behind the app was acquired by Apple. The announcement went hand in hand with the removal of the Dark Sky app from the Android and Wear Play Stores. The website will be available until July 1st, at which point it too will disappear.
As Dark Sky is a paid app, current subscription holders on any of the deprecated platforms will be getting a refund.
For the time being the app will continue to be available to purchase in the App Store, however for the longer term it seems likely that Apple will change the sales model - either by morphing it into a replacement for the default iOS Weather app, or by including it in a future iOS app subscription similar to the one which it offers for games as Apple Arcade.
