Climate Emergency: Australia's Wildfires Are Turning The Skies Orange As Far Away As New Zealand

The smoke plume from the wildfires burning across Australia have already rendered much of the country's skies blood red. With an estimated 15 million acres of blazes burning, an area twice the size of Belgium is burning, releasing particulates and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The impact of those emissions have now crossed the Tasman, with skies in New Zealand, more than 2,000km away, now an eerie orange colour.

With mass evacuations, the death of people and wildlife (more than a third of the world's Koala population has been wiped out in this one event); and tremendous damage to property, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is facing a major backlash for his failure to tackle or even admit the current climate emergency. It seems unlikely that his party will be able to survive the events of this summer as the Australian people face up to the very real danger that climate change threatens.

With many fires still burning uncontrolled I fear there is plenty more bad news to come from Australia before this summer is over.
