Sony seems to have turned its smartphone division around over the last two years. Despite now being a minor player in the market its phones are still proving increasingly popular and the move away from competing for volume has allowed it to remain profitable.
There's no question that Sony builds some of the best devices on the market, but it's limited penetration outside of Japan has always been a limiting factor.
Even so its phones remain speak to those who want something premium and don't want to follow the crowd. A group who will be just as happy with those quarterly numbers as Sony's shareholders.
