Tablet Market Continues To Slide, Apple Suffering Most


IDC reported tablet sales figures for the last quarter and the news wasn't good. Year on year sales are down by 8.5%, amounting to a quarterly sales figure of just 36 million devices.

Most of that shortfall came from reduced iPad sales, with Apple seeing a fall off of 13%. Apple still leads the market, however it is reversing back towards second-placed Samsung at an unhealthy rate. For its part, Samsung maintained volume in comparison to last year, whilst third-placed Huawei actually grew its tablet business.

IDC's report includes both traditional tablets and some hybrids, so there's a little bit of opacity about what this means for the computer market as a whole. However its clear that however you measure the tablet market the iPad is underperforming it.

Whether Apple cares is another question entirely.
