Sony Squeaks Profit Out Of Smartphones In 2017

Sony has completed its 2017 fiscal year and as well as turning an overall profit for the year, the company reported a significant turnaround in its mobile division.

Despite seeing revenues and sales down, the mobile division turned a $500m loss into a $92m profit, something the company puts down to improved efficiencies and a focus on high end hardware.

The wider picture was affected by the massive write off at Sony Pictures, however both Components and Playstation divisions had successful years and Sony is predicting a much healthier 2018 as a result.

Contributing to that success is likely to be Sony's ongoing contract with Apple to supply iPhone cameras. With new iPhones likely to be insanely popular later this year, Sony's Components division is likely to have an even better result in twelve months time.
