IDC has given its verdict on PC sales in Q1 2017, and the news is good. Sales are marginally up and the big five now own nearly three-quarters of all sales. That upward tick is the first positive news since 2012.
Big winner was HP, which regained top spot for the first time since 2013. Year on year growth was 13%, enough to push HP ahead of Lenovo. Dell took third place ahead of Apple and Acer.
IDC does not include sales of tablets, detachable or other slate devices in its numbers, so this growth truly reflects a small, but important, bounce in PC sales.
