Google Has Another Go At Messaging With Collaborative Hangouts

How many different messaging tools can one company need. Or more pertinently, how many different iterations of the same solution can one company deliver without making a success of it?

And of course when that company is Google, the other thing to consider is, how long before all these messaging services get scaled back and eventually binned, leaving users high, dry and not very mighty?

Today Google announced that Hangouts was going to be re-purposed to compete with Slack and Microsoft Teams in the collaborative messaging space.

That seems like an idea with limited potential. How long, I wonder, before we'll all back here talking about the Hangouts service being shuttered or replaced with something different yet mostly the same?
