Android: 1.4bn Users Can't Be Wrong

As well as announcing new hardware, software and services Google slipped in its user numbers for Android and they are mighty: 1.4bn active Android users, or close to one-fifth of the world's population.
That's within touching distance of the number of users currently using Windows and double the number of active iOS users.
It's a validation of the work that Google has put into building itself a mobile platform. Remember that Google had nothing but a search engine when the first Android phone first launched in 2008.
From that first very basic phone Google has iterated its way through updates and will shortly have the most popular computing platform in the world.
