Nokia Lumia Sales Rocket Forward

Nokia announced its Q2 results today and they're looking pretty good, for the smartphone division anyway.

Lumia sales jumped to 7.4m in the quarter - all but doubling the 4m of the corresponding quarter last year and a increase of around 30% on last quarter.

Much of the growth has been driven by the release of the entry-level Lumia 520, which appears to have been a pretty solid performer in the marketplace.

Overall Nokia's Windows Phone handsets now outsell Blackberry. And with HTC, Samsung and Huawei adding another 1m or so devices to the total, Microsoft's goal of moving into third place in the smartphone battle has been achieved and consolidated.

With the Lumia 1020 and 925 both adding to sales numbers in Q3 it will be interesting to see how Nokia builds on this growth.
