Hey Auckland, Where Are The Electric Cars?

If ever there was a city designed for electric cars then Auckland is it. Short distances between the various parts of the city coupled with low population density and a high proportion of energy from renewable sources make for ideal electric car ownership conditions.

And whilst there are a good proportion of hybrids running through the streets of the city, electric cars are rarely seen. In fact the only thing rarer are electric charging points.

The arrival of the Renault Zoe, with its lean purchase price and running costs may be the catalyst for change, although I expect that until a Nissan badged version arrives we won't see it on sale in New Zealand.
